Effortless Running
I started running a few years ago. Having trained in dance, I had never been into running. I started off going once round the park, near my house.
Gradually I went further and before long was running 5k a couple of times a week. I now regularly participate in my local Park Run and even ran my first 10k race last year. Having come late to running I could immediately feel that my twenty years of Feldenkrais practice supported me to run more efficiently and smoothly than I would have otherwise. |
Feldenkrais can help you prevent and recover from running injuries
Many people enjoy running, but are plagued by injuries, pain or discomfort - and many give up altogether. It is not running itself that could be the issue - but the way that you do it. There is a lot you can learn about the activity of running that can make it easier. It’s often your unconscious patterns of holding yourself that are getting in your way. For example, perhaps you are someone who tends to stoop, rounding forwards in your back. This could mean that the forces that propel you forwards are being blocked from passing up from the ground, through your pelvis and spine, making running feel difficult. |
Greater awareness of your body can make a big difference to your running performance
We don’t just use our legs to run, but our back, our arms, shoulders, pelvis, head and eyes. By bringing more awareness to how you use all these different parts of yourself you are able to let go of restrictive patterns, make tiny adjustments to how you move, which over time, can make a big difference to your performance. Running can start to feel pleasurable, you are less likely to get injured and you run faster. |

"Since taking up running in my mid fifties I began Feldenkrais with Jackie, as a way to help me - especially as I transitioned from being a cyclist to a runner. It has made such a difference to my running and it has been absolutely fundamental to me being able to run efficiently, joyfully and pain free. I would certainly recommend the method to any runner.”
